The Town of Mount Gilead is seeking a qualified candidate to fulfill the position of Town Manager. Located in the center of North Carolina, Mount Gilead is nestled just off the banks of Lake Tillery and borders the Uwharrie Mountains. A combination of historic small-town atmosphere with all the amenities of an outdoor enthusiast’s dream location. Located just an hour away from the state’s metropolitan areas, Mount Gilead serves a small town of well-established, long time area citizens as well as growing residential lake area. The Town is a full-service municipality that includes Administration, Police, Streets, Water and Wastewater Collections, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Planning & Zoning, and Parks and Recreation. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic go-getter that can lead the community in their efforts to improve their infrastructure, encourage business growth in all areas of the Town, aid in place-making, and enhance the historic downtown district. The Town Manager is appointed by and works under the direction of an elected Mayor and a four-member Board of Commissioners.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in public administration, business management, or related field. Supervisory experience at a management level desired. Experience in a municipal environment or related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of the Municipal and County Administration through UNC School of Government is required or obtainable within 2 years of employment. Candidates should possess a broad knowledge in the areas of budgeting, planning and zoning, economic development, grant writing, public works, consensus building, community involvement, and internal/external team building. The Town Manager is considered the Budget Officer for the Town and is responsible for all aspects of developing, processing, and maintaining the Town’s budget. The ideal candidate is someone with strong communication skills, an excellent personality, and can provide quality and joyous customer service to a diverse and broad range of stakeholders. Relocation within 30 minutes of the Town of Mount Gilead is required.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Hiring range $65-000 – $75,000. NC Local Government Retirement, NC State Health Plan, dental, vision, life, optional 401k with 5% match, vacation and sick leave accrual.
