The Town of Mount Gilead welcomes Officer Joseph Lawing, who was sworn in at 11:00am at the Mount Gilead Town Hall on October 13, 2025.  This second-generation law enforcement officer is a resident of Troy, North Carolia.  He is a family man with long-term ties to the Montgomery County community.  He comes to this position with 18 years of experience in law enforcement, having served most recently with the Town of Wingate Police Department.  His supervisory experience and training in specialized investigative units were touted by Mount Gilead Police Chief Talmedge Legrand. Chief Legrand presented Officer Lawing his badge immediately after he was sworn in by Town Clerk Lessie Jackson. Officer Lawing was joined for his swearing-in ceremony by his wife Tiffany and three of his five children: son Jackson and daughters Aubrey and Mattie.
