Remembering those lost on 9/11

September 11th reminds us that the American spirit still shines in times of testing. It is our duty to live up to the goodness that those who sacrificed that day, 24 years ago, embodied. We will always strive to live up to their example and their memory. We will always, always remember.

To that end, the plane impact times on September 11th will be commemorated in the Town of Mount Gilead by an air siren sounding from the fire station. The siren will sound for 30 seconds intervals at the following times:

8:46 am: American airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center
9:03am: United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South Tower of the World Trade
9:37am: American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon
10:03am: United Airlines Flight 93 went down in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania

The times of the tower collapses will also be commemorated by air siren in the same manner.

9:59am: South Tower collapsed
10:28am: North Tower collapsed

We invite everyone to pause for a moment of silence during these times to reflect and honor the victims, their families, and the first responders.
