The Town of Mount Gilead has selected Barrett Brown as its new Town Manager. Brown was chosen to lead the Town of Mount Gilead following an extensive search. Brown brings local government management experience, having previously served as Town Administrator for the Town of Green Level, NC. While serving the Town of Green Level, Brown was responsible for strengthening the Town’s fiscal health by eliminating a two-year audit backlog and growing the Town’s reserves. He also facilitated partnerships with community organizations to accomplish mutually beneficial community goals.
Brown commented on his hiring stating “My family and I are grateful for this opportunity. I am excited about working with the Board, staff, and community to navigate smart growth for the Town of Mount Gilead; while continuing to provide basic services to its citizens with dignity.”

His passion for service and enhancing the lives of those he serves were also evident throughout this process.” said Sheldon Morley, Mayor of the Town of Mount Gilead.
As Town Manager, Brown will oversee day-to-day operations, the Town’s budget, and personnel. Day-to-day operations of the Town include public safety, water and wastewater distribution and collections systems, a wastewater treatment plant, recreational services and facilities, streets and right of way maintenance, operational and administrative support services, as well as other services and activities.
Brown is a graduate of North Carolina Central University holding undergraduate degrees in Political Science and History. He has also completed numerous training opportunities through the North Carolina League of Municipalities and the UNC-CH School of Government. Brown is married and has five children. He will begin his duties as Town Manager on July 7, 2025.
