Notice of Public Hearing

In accordance with the provisions of Article 10.5 Amendments of the Mount Gilead Zoning Ordinance and North Carolina General Statute 160D Article 6 inclusive, the Town of Mount Gilead Town Board has scheduled a Legislative Hearing for Thursday August 1, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at the Highland Community Center located at 131 Hoffman Road, Mt. Gilead, North Carolina to receive the Planning Board recommendation, accept public comment, and take formal action on the following:

  1. Zoning Text Amendment – Article 4 Zoning Districts:

An Applicant has filed a request to amend article 4 of the Mount Gilead zoning Ordinance to:

  1. Remove Hotel, Motel, and Bed and Breakfast as permitted uses.
  2. Include Short term Rental, Small – host occupied as a permitted use.
  3. Include Short Term Rental, Large – host occupied as a permitted use.
  4. Include Short Term Rental, Non-host occupied as a permitted use.

  • Zoning Text Amendment – Article 6 Design Standards:

An applicant has filed a request to amend article 6 of the Mount Gilead Zoning Ordinance to:

  1. Address parking requirements in the Downtown Historic District.

Parking is an issue in the Downtown area. Owners of historic properties face an issue with a lack of available property area in providing the necessary parking to support new or expanded land uses.

Members of the public are invited to attend the LEGISLATIVE HEARING and offer comment on the proposal(s) consistent with the Town’s applicable rules of procedure.  Questions concerning these items can be directed to the Town Manager at (910) 439-5111.
